The Media Operations System blog contains tips and advice on the various tools within the system as well as wider advice about radio stations.

What is the Media Operations System?

The Media Operations System has been designed by a radio DJ to help radio stations with on air features and the tools required to manage a station and its army of volunteers/staff.

What is the Media Operations System?

Presenters can plan their shows anytime and anywhere as the Media Operations System is available online 24/7. On air, presenters and producers can view the inbound texts, emails, requests and tweets all in one list on the show prep page.

The calendar is the main tool for planning shows and agreeing who'll be staffing which shows. Presenters and staff can sign up to help out on shows and add the information that is then populated on the schedule and social media. On the home page, you can see the list of shows coming up over the next few weeks that need staffing, so you can quickly spot the gaps in the schedule and get cover in place where needed.

Once signed up to a show, presenters can plan their shows with the dedicated show prep planning tool in advance. Adding features means you can see what you've done in previous weeks to prevent you repeating yourself (too quickly anyway!).

The system provides a range of admin tools to help station managers too. The wide range of functions helps with the admin needed to keep a station on air - a vital but boring task. It includes training records, risk register, action log and accounts section.

Keeping you all connected is easy through the use of the internal communication channels, which includes an internal forum and messages section. The forum can be setup to suit your requirements, allowing different areas for different subjects with user access control built in.

One of the primary reasons for the system being created was to keep an admin log of all the volunteers/staff at a station and it's all built around this. You have control over who has access to what and record training or passes against each member so you know where you stand. This all helps you plan for the future while keeping on top of your Ofcom key commitments.

Does it come with a kitchen sink as well? Sadly no, but there is an option for everyone to add their tea and coffee preferences so at least you don't need to keep asking who takes milk and sugar ?
